Indian Embassy Urges Indian Nationals to Move Out of Tehran Amid Escalating Israel-Iran Tensions

New Delhi: The Indian Embassy in Tehran issued a critical advisory on Tuesday, calling on all Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) in the Iranian capital to evacuate to safer locations due to deteriorating security conditions. The directive comes as tensions between Israel and Iran continue to intensify.

In a social media post, the embassy stated, “Indian nationals and PIOs able to leave Tehran using their own means are strongly advised to relocate to a secure area outside the city.” It also urged those still in Tehran to immediately contact the embassy with their location and contact details, emphasizing, “All Indian nationals in Tehran who have not yet connected with the Embassy are requested to do so promptly.”

MEA Establishes 24/7 Control Room

To address the escalating crisis, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has set up a 24/7 control room to monitor developments and provide assistance to Indian citizens in Iran. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced the initiative on X. Additionally, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has activated a 24-hour emergency helpline to support those affected by the ongoing situation.

Indian Students Moved Out of Tehran for Safety: MEA

The MEA confirmed that Indian students in Tehran have been safely moved out of the city as a precautionary measure, with the embassy coordinating their relocation. “Through arrangements made by the Embassy, Indian students have been shifted from Tehran for their safety,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry also advised other Indian residents with access to personal transportation to leave Tehran due to the rapidly evolving situation. “Some Indians have been assisted in exiting Iran via the Armenian border,” the statement added, noting that the embassy remains in close communication with the Indian community to offer all possible support.

Israel’s ongoing airstrikes in Iran have caused significant loss of life, with authorities reporting over 200 deaths and hundreds of injuries.
