Indian Coast Guard’s Heroic Rescue Saves Six from Capsized Foreign Vessel

In a daring operation off the Mangalore coast, the Indian Coast Guard successfully rescued six crew members from a sinking cargo vessel, MSV SALAMATH, on May 16, 2025. The ship, registered abroad, capsized in the Arabian Sea, prompting a swift response from the Coast Guard’s Ship Vikram, which was on routine patrol in the area.
According to the sources, the rescued crew, identified as Ismail Shareef, Alemun Ahmed Bhai Ghavda, Kakal Suleman Ismail, Akbar Abdul Surani, Kasam Ismail Mepani, and Azmal, abandoned the vessel and boarded a small dinghy before being spotted. The Coast Guard team located the survivors and safely recovered them, ensuring their well-being.
This operation underscores the Indian Coast Guard’s commitment to maritime safety and its capability to execute high-stakes rescues in challenging conditions. The incident follows another recent Coast Guard operation off the Tamil Nadu coast, where four foreign nationals were detained in a coordinated sea and air mission.
