India Rules Out Talks on Kashmir, Focus Remains on PoK: Sources

New Delhi: India has made it clear that it is not open to discussions on the broader Kashmir issue, with official sources stating that the only outstanding matter is Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

According to sources, all talks related to halting military operations will be handled solely through the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) channels, excluding any third-party mediation.

“We are not ready to engage on matters of Kashmir. The only thing left on Kashmir is PoK. The message is that DGMO-level talks will remain the sole line of communication for the cessation of military activity. No third country or party is involved,” sources emphasized.

This firm stance comes in the wake of Operation Sindoor, a military offensive launched by the Indian Armed Forces on May 7 targeting nine terror infrastructure facilities across Pakistan and PoJK. The operation was conducted in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including a Nepali citizen.

The retaliatory operation has intensified hostilities between India and Pakistan, leading to escalated cross-border shelling. Several border regions have been placed on high alert, and power outages have occurred during Pakistani attacks.

On Saturday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that Pakistan’s DGMO had reached out to his Indian counterpart. Both sides agreed to implement a ceasefire across land, air, and sea, effective from 5 PM. Misri added that orders had been given to enforce the ceasefire, and a follow-up round of DGMO-level talks is scheduled for May 12 at noon.

However, despite the agreement, ceasefire violations were reported hours later, with Pakistani drones being intercepted by India’s air defence during a blackout in Srinagar. India has urged Pakistan to take responsibility and ensure that the ceasefire agreement is upheld.
