India Rescues Over 500 Citizens Trapped in Cybercrime Rackets in Myanmar and Thailand

New Delhi: More than 500 Indian nationals, who were deceived by fake job offers and forced into illegal activities in Myanmar and Thailand, have been successfully rescued and repatriated, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced.

On Tuesday, 266 Indians were brought back to India on an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft, following the return of 283 citizens on Monday. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the development on social media, sharing images of the rescued individuals and highlighting the coordinated efforts of Indian embassies with the governments of Myanmar and Thailand.

According to the MEA, these victims were lured with fraudulent job offers and later forced to participate in cybercrime and other illegal operations in scam centers near the Myanmar-Thailand border. The government has been actively working to secure their release and ensure their safe return.

On Monday, the first batch of 283 Indians was flown back from Mae Sot, Thailand, as part of the rescue operation. The MEA has reiterated its warnings against such employment scams, urging Indian citizens to verify job offers and recruitment agents before accepting opportunities abroad.

“Indian nationals are once again advised to verify the credentials of foreign employers through missions abroad and check the antecedents of recruiting agents and companies before taking up a job offer,” the ministry emphasized.
