Amid escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held separate phone calls with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging both sides to immediately de-escalate the situation.
According to U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, Secretary Rubio underscored the importance of restraint during his conversation with Jaishankar. He reaffirmed Washington’s support for direct dialogue between the two nations and stressed the need to strengthen communication channels to avoid further escalation.
The diplomatic outreach follows Pakistan’s reported drone and missile activity targeting multiple Indian cities near the border, including areas in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
