At least 10 people have died after a private bus was struck by a landslide near Balughat in Himachal Pradesh’s Bilaspur district on Tuesday, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu confirmed.
Several passengers are feared trapped beneath the debris, the Chief Minister stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“Rescue operations are being conducted on a war footing. Authorities have been directed to deploy all available resources and machinery. I am maintaining constant contact with the local administration and receiving real-time updates on the rescue efforts,” CM Sukhu wrote.
The region has been experiencing intermittent rainfall since Monday, which has contributed to unstable terrain and increased landslide risks across the hill state.
Emergency teams are working at the site to clear debris and locate survivors, with heavy machinery being deployed to aid the operation. Further details about the number of passengers on board and the extent of injuries are awaited as rescue work continues.
