Heightened Security Measures Mark Kashmir Ahead of Amit Shah’s Visit

Authorities in Kashmir ramped up security on Monday in preparation for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s arrival later today, according to local officials. Shah, currently stationed in Jammu as part of a two-day visit to the Union Territory, is set to assess the region’s security framework during his trip.

The minister’s itinerary includes a stop at the residence of fallen police officer Humayun Muzammil Bhat in Humhama, followed by an overnight stay at the Rajbhawan. Bhat, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, was one of four security personnel killed in action during a fierce encounter with terrorists on September 13, 2023. The clash unfolded in the thick forests near Gadool village in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district, south Kashmir.

On Tuesday, Shah is slated to lead a high-level meeting with senior security forces and police officials to evaluate Kashmir’s security situation. Additionally, he will oversee a separate discussion focused on the progress of ongoing developmental initiatives in the region, officials confirmed.
