Ghaziabad Woman Alleges Dowry Harassment; Says Husband Demanded She Look Like Nora Fatehi

A woman in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, has lodged a police complaint accusing her husband and in-laws of persistent harassment and mental cruelty over dowry, alleging they pressured her to maintain a physique like Bollywood actor Nora Fatehi, officials said.
According to the complaint, the woman married six months ago claimed her family spent over Rs 76 lakh on the wedding, yet she was subjected to body shaming and coercion at her marital home. She alleged her husband, a physical education teacher at a government school, called her “fat and ugly,” forced her to exercise for three hours daily, and that she was denied food if she did not comply. She also accused him of physically assaulting her.
The woman further alleged that her in-laws compelled her to take an abortion pill, which she said resulted in a miscarriage.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Saloni Agarwal confirmed that a complaint was received at the women’s police station and that a case has been registered. “The complainant claimed that her husband and in-laws harassed her in various ways,” Agarwal told PTI Videos on Thursday, adding that the woman alleged her husband “had certain expectations” and “forced her to work out,” and that she was not provided meals on time by her in-laws. The officer said an FIR has been filed and the matter is under investigation, noting the complainant’s statement that her husband told her she “should be like Nora Fatehi” and have a body like hers.
The woman also alleged her husband is a womaniser and watches “inappropriate videos of women on the internet.” Further inquiry is underway.
