A video from Rishikesh has gone viral online, capturing the moment a German Shepherd jumped from a balcony to chase away a stray dog running behind a group of children in a residential lane. The clip shows the Shepherd calmly observing from above before springing into action as the children sprint past, followed closely by the stray. The dog lands, charges toward the stray, and drives it away, prompting applause across social media.

Captioned on X as “In Rishikesh, a dog jumped like a superhero to save children from another dog,” the footage drew an outpouring of praise for the Shepherd’s alertness and protective response.
Many users affectionately nicknamed the dog “Dogesh Bhai,” with comments like, “Well done, Dogesh Bhai. You saved those kids like a true bodyguard,” and, “Hero mode: Activated. Leapt like a superhero, saved the day. Kids + doggo = Team Awesome!” Others marveled at the height of the jump, speculating the animal might be trained or retired from service.
Not everyone agreed on the intent behind the leap. Some users cautioned against attributing human motives, suggesting the Shepherd may have simply reacted to the presence of another dog rather than consciously “rescuing” the children.

The clip surfaces amid heightened debate over public safety and stray dog management. The Supreme Court has recently taken suo motu notice of rising stray attacks, directing authorities to capture, sterilize, and relocate strays to shelters, with a focus on protecting infants and young children from rabies. The directive has split opinion online: supporters argue it prioritizes vulnerable communities, while animal welfare advocates contend it overlooks the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023, and could amount to a harsh, even “death sentence,” approach to street dogs.
