
New Delhi : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday urged Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to drop an MP from the list of four parliamentarians nominated by the Congress for the government’s delegations to be sent to foreign countries to explain India’s stance on terrorism from Pakistan.
He once again reiterated his claims against Gogoi over his alleged Pakistan links through his British wife, Elizabeth Colburn. Sarma alleged that an MP had stayed in Pakistan for 15 days without informing the authorities and claimed his wife was “drawing a salary from a Pakistan-based NGO while working in India”.
One of the MPs named in the list (from Assam) has not denied his prolonged stay in Pakistan, reportedly for two weeks, and credible documents show that his wife was drawing salary from a Pakistan-based NGO while working in India. The Assam Chief Minister and the BJP have been attacking Gogoi over his wife’s alleged connection with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI.
Sarma had also claimed that Gogoi’s wife had “good relations” with the Pakistan Army. In the past, Sarma has called Gogoi a “Pakistani sympathiser”, against whom action is yet to be taken by his government.
