Tragic Accidents Claim Six Lives During Andhra Pradesh Ganesh Immersion Events
Amaravati: Six individuals lost their lives in separate accidents during Ganesh immersion processions across Andhra Pradesh, prompting heartfelt condolences from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The incidents, reported by NDTV, occurred amidst the vibrant celebrations marking the conclusion of Ganesh Chaturthi festivities in the state.
In Krishna district, a 25-year-old man, Vamsi, and his 21-year-old cousin, Venkatesh, drowned in the Krishna River near Nagayalanka while participating in an immersion ceremony. The two were part of a group from Penamaluru village when the tragedy struck. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
In Eluru district, another accident claimed the life of 22-year-old Mahesh, who fell into a canal during a procession and drowned. Local police reported that the incident occurred as the group was immersed in the celebratory rituals, highlighting the need for enhanced safety measures at such events.
Anakapalli district saw a devastating accident when a 16-year-old boy was fatally struck by a lorry while dancing in a procession. The collision occurred during the festive chaos, underscoring the risks of large gatherings on busy roads.
In Palnadu district, two more lives were lost in separate incidents. A 24-year-old was electrocuted during a procession, and a 17-year-old drowned in a pond while participating in idol immersion activities. Both incidents have raised concerns about safety protocols during public celebrations.
Chief Minister Naidu expressed deep sorrow over the losses, stating, “I am deeply pained by the tragic deaths during Ganesh immersion processions across Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with the families of the deceased.” He urged officials to ensure stricter safety measures to prevent future tragedies.
The state government has assured support for the affected families, and investigations are underway to address lapses in safety arrangements. These incidents cast a shadow over the otherwise joyous Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, prompting calls for greater vigilance during public events.
