
Ahmedabad : Flight operations at Ahmedabad airport have been temporarily suspended following the crash of Air India Flight AI171 on Thursday, airport authorities said. “As a result of the Air India plane crash incident, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA), Ahmedabad, is currently not operational. All flight operations are temporarily suspended until further notice,” the airport said in an official statement.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu and took stock of the situation after an Air India flight with 242 onboard crashed in Ahmedabad. According to the minister’s office, Naidu is en route to Ahmedabad to oversee rescue and relief operations. “The Prime Minister has directed the Minister to ensure all necessary support is extended immediately and asked to be kept regularly updated on the situation. All relevant agencies are on high alert, and coordinated efforts are underway,” said a statement from Naidu’s office.

An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed in Ahmedabad. The flight, carrying 242 passengers, was bound for London. Reports indicate the aircraft failed to even cross the airport boundary before it exploded shortly after takeoff. It has been said that 100 people feared dead in the mishap.
