Patna: In a brazen act of violence, five armed and unmasked men stormed a private hospital in Patna on Thursday morning and opened fire on a criminal on parole undergoing medical treatment. The assailants shot the patient multiple times before fleeing the scene on motorcycles, reportedly heading toward Buxar. Authorities suspect the attack is linked to an ongoing gang rivalry.
The victim has been identified as Chandan Mishra, a notorious criminal from Buxar district, who was out on parole from Bhagalpur jail for treatment at Paras Hospital in Patna. Security footage from the hospital, which captured the entire incident, is expected to play a crucial role in the ongoing investigation.
According to Inspector General Jitendra Rana, Mishra may have been targeted by rival gang members or could have fallen victim to infighting within his own criminal network. “We are examining whether the motive was external gang rivalry or internal conflict among associates,” he stated. Mishra remains in critical condition as doctors continue treatment.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma confirmed Mishra’s long history of violent crime, including multiple murder charges. “Due to his notoriety, Mishra had been transferred from Buxar jail to Bhagalpur jail. He was granted parole for medical reasons, during which he was tracked and ambushed inside the hospital,” Sharma explained.
The attackers’ easy access to the hospital has raised serious concerns about security protocols. “We are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning the hospital’s security personnel to determine how the armed men were able to enter and exit without resistance. The hospital’s potential negligence or complicity is also under scrutiny,” SSP Sharma added.
The investigation is ongoing.
