Five Militants Detained in Manipur, Arms Cache Recovered

Imphal : Five militants of different banned groups were arrested by security forces in Manipur in operations in the Imphal valley on Tuesday, police said. Two active cadres of the United National Liberation Front (Koireng faction), engaged in extortion from all over Imphal and Bishnupur districts, were picked up in Imphal East district. Two cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG), suspected of extortion from Imphal West, were arrested in Bishnupur district.
In another operation, a regular member of the SOREPA group was nabbed in Imphal East district for threatening and making monetary demands from government personnel. Simultaneously, security personnel launched search operations at Chingkhei Ching in Imphal East and recovered a considerable stock of arms and ammunition such as a 9 mm pistol, grenades, and a number of rifles and magazines.
The successful arrests and weapons seizure are part of sustained operations by security forces to stem militant activities in the state. Security authorities have stepped up operations to provide peace and security in the state.
