The death toll from the roof collapse at a dargah near the Humayun’s Tomb complex in Delhi’s Nizamuddin has risen to six, officials confirmed on Friday night. Authorities said 12 people were rescued from the debris and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), those rescued included three men, five women, and a 4-year-old boy. One male patient was admitted to Lok Nayak (LNJP) Hospital and a female patient to RML Hospital, while one woman emerged uninjured and did not require hospitalization. Of the victims, six deaths—three men and three women—have been reported by hospitals so far. Earlier, the DCP told Hindustan Times that among the deceased were two men aged 79 and 35, and three women aged 42, 40, and 40.
Police said the incident occurred as people were gathered for Friday prayers and were seated inside a room of the dargah when the roof gave way, reportedly due to heavy rainfall. The collapse took place at Dargah Sharif Patte Shah, located near Humayun’s Tomb. Following distress calls, Delhi Police, fire services, and NDRF personnel reached the site.
The rescue operation has since been called off. Officials said a total of 10–12 people were pulled from the rubble. As reported by ANI, Delhi Police rescued 11 individuals and shifted them to AIIMS and Lok Nayak Hospital for treatment, noting earlier in the day that search efforts were still underway.
