Indian Forces Down Pakistani Jet Amid Escalating Tensions

The Indian Army shot down a Pakistani JF-17 fighter jet in the Wuyan area of Pampore town, Pulwama district, early Wednesday, according to media reports. The incident occurred when the jet allegedly attempted to breach Indian airspace, escalating tensions along the Line of Control (LoC).

The operation followed India’s targeted missile strikes on terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), codenamed “Operation Sindoor.” These strikes were launched in response to a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen. Social media footage showed a crashed jet-like structure in a field, with firefighters working to extinguish the blaze, though the Indian Army has not yet issued an official statement confirming the event.

The Defence Ministry reported that “Operation Sindoor” involved precise strikes on nine terrorist targets, including the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) headquarters in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s base in Muridke, both in Pakistan’s Punjab province. The ministry emphasized that no Pakistani military installations were targeted, underscoring India’s intent to focus solely on terrorist infrastructure.
