Fadnavis Credits Modi and BJP Stalwarts for Party’s Global Dominance

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and key historical figures like Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee as the driving forces behind the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) rise to become the world’s largest political party. Speaking at an event in Nagpur, where Union Minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone for the BJP’s new office, Fadnavis emphasized the party’s remarkable growth since its inception.
The BJP traces its roots to April 6, 1980, when leaders from the former Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which had previously merged with other opposition groups to form the Janata Party for the 1977 post-Emergency elections, established the party. In its debut national election in 1984, the BJP secured just two Lok Sabha seats. However, its fortunes shifted under the stewardship of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani, leading to coalition governance in the 1990s. The party’s ascent peaked in 2014 when Modi guided it to a historic standalone majority, a dominance it has maintained at the national level ever since.
During his address, Fadnavis likened the new office’s foundation ceremony to “laying the cornerstone of our own home.” He credited the collective legacy of Mookerjee, Upadhyaya, Vajpayee, and Modi’s leadership for transforming the BJP into a global political powerhouse.
