Election Commission Rejects Rahul Gandhi’s Rigging Allegations “Completely Absurd”

Hey, have you heard about the latest political spat in India? The Election Commission of India (EC) just came out swinging against Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, over his claims that the recent Maharashtra Assembly elections were rigged. They didn’t mince words either calling his accusations “vague” and “completely absurd.” It’s like they’re saying, “Come on Rahul you’re totally out of line here!”

So, what’s the story? On Saturday, the EC dropped a pretty fiery statement tearing into Gandhi’s allegations of voter fraud and election manipulation. They’re adamant that everything was on the up-and-up, with the voting process being totally transparent. Apparently, agents from all political parties including Gandhi’s own Congress crew were there watching the whole thing, and nobody cried foul during the polls.

Here’s where it started: Gandhi penned this opinion piece in The Indian Express, pointing fingers at the EC and accusing them of cooking the books or rather, the voter lists to give the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a leg up. He’s saying they padded the rolls with fake voters to swing the results. But the EC wasn’t having it. They fired back, noting that not a single Congress polling agent reported anything fishy while the voting was going down. Sounds like Gandhi’s team was pretty quiet on the ground if there was all this supposed rigging happening, right?

This whole mess comes on the heels of a brutal loss for the Congress-led INDIA bloc in the Maharashtra elections. They only snagged 46 out of 288 seats a real face-plant compared to how they held their own against the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition in the earlier Lok Sabha elections in the same state. Ouch. The EC seems to think Gandhi’s just sore about the defeat. They’re like, “Look, calling us compromised just because you lost is ridiculous. Stop trying to drag our name through the mud!”

But wait, there’s more. Gandhi’s also ticked off about a change in the rules for picking Election Commissioners and the Chief Election Commissioner. He’s upset that the Chief Justice of India got booted from the selection panel, claiming it hands the central government too much control. The EC, though? They’re rolling their eyes, calling this “unsubstantiated” and pointing out they’ve already tackled these same gripes from Congress before like, check their detailed response from December 24, 2024, on their website. “You’re just recycling old complaints and ignoring the facts,” they basically said.

And then there’s this big number showdown. Gandhi’s out here saying 70 lakh voters got suspiciously added to Maharashtra’s voter lists between the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Seventy lakh! That’s a lot of people. But the EC pulled out their data like a mic drop, showing only 40.81 lakh voters were added in that five-month stretch. They’re like, “Your math doesn’t add up, buddy.”

With all this post-election tension bubbling up, the EC’s standing firm, doubling down on their mission to keep India’s voting system legit. They’re basically telling Gandhi, “Your claims don’t hold water, and you’re just beating a dead horse.” It’s a classic political showdown accusations flying, numbers clashing, and everyone digging in their heels. What do you think fair fight or sour grapes?
