Election Commission Extends Deadline For SIR In 5 States Including Gujarat, No Extension For Bengal

New Delhi : Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday extended the deadline for submission of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) across five states and one Union Territory by one week. The extension applies to Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Uttar Pradesh. Tamil Nadu and Gujarat will now submit their SIRs by December 19, 2025 (Friday) instead of December 14, 2025 (Sunday).

Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands have been given time until December 23, 2025 (Tuesday), replacing the earlier deadline of December 18, 2025 (Thursday). Uttar Pradesh, which had the latest original deadline, will now submit its SIR on December 31, 2025 (Wednesday) instead of December 26, 2025 (Friday). Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said the state had requested the Election Commission of India to grant an additional two weeks to complete the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in an organised manner and to ensure an accurate and updated electoral roll.

Rinwa added that the ECI has extended the previously announced SIR schedule in Uttar Pradesh by 15 days, based on the eligibility date of January 1, 2026, and has issued revised timelines accordingly. As per the updated schedule, the counting period will continue until December 26, 2025. The draft publication of electoral rolls will now take place on December 31, 2025. From December 31, 2025 to February 21, 2026, authorities will decide on notices, verify enumeration forms, and dispose of claims and objections.
