Earthquake: Kargil and Arunachal Pradesh 5.2 and 4.0 Magnitude Tremors Hit Early Friday

Two separate quakes rattled the Himalayan region in the early hours of Friday, March 14. The first earthquake struck Kargil in Ladakh at 2:50 AM IST, registering a 5.2 on the Richter scale, with its tremors felt as far as Jammu and Kashmir. Later, at 6:01 AM IST, another quake hit West Kameng in Arunachal Pradesh, measuring 4.0.
The National Center for Seismology has confirmed both events, and there have been no reports of casualties.
Ladakh, Arunachal lie in areas vulnerable to earthquakes
Both Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh are situated in Seismic Zone-IV, an area highly susceptible to frequent and strong earthquakes. India’s seismic zoning system ranges from Zone II to Zone V, with Zone V being the most vulnerable.
This recent seismic activity follows similar events earlier in the month. On February 28, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake shook Bihar, with tremors felt in cities including Patna, Supaul, and Kishanganj. Just a day earlier, on February 27, a 5.0-magnitude quake rattled Assam’s Morigaon district, with noticeable tremors in Guwahati and surrounding areas.
