Drunk Driver’s Rampage Leaves Three Dead, Six Injured in Jaipur Chaos

A horrific incident unfolded in Jaipur on Tuesday when an intoxicated SUV driver plowed through a seven-kilometer stretch, striking pedestrians and vehicles, resulting in three fatalities and six severe injuries, according to local police. The driver, a factory owner, began his deadly spree on MI Road before careening into the tight lanes overseen by Nahargarh police station, leaving a trail of devastation.

Authorities reported that the chaos started near Santosh Mata Temple, where the driver first collided with a scooter. From there, he continued his reckless path, running over fallen victims and smashing into additional people and vehicles. The SUV even struck cars parked outside the Nahargarh police station before finally being halted by police and residents when it became trapped in a narrow alley. The driver was immediately taken into custody.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Bajrang Singh Shekhawat identified the suspect as Usman Khan, a 62-year-old resident of Rana Colony in Shastri Nagar. Shekhawat noted that Khan, who was heavily under the influence of alcohol, lost control of his vehicle, striking most victims within a 500-meter radius near the police station.

The injured were identified as Virendra Singh (48), Mamta Kanwar (50), Monesh Soni (28), Mohammad Jalaluddin (44), Deepika Saini (17), Vijay Narayan (65), Jebunnisha (50), Anshika (24), and Awadhesh Pareek (37). They were rushed to Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital, where Mamta Kanwar and Awadhesh Pareek were pronounced dead on arrival. Virendra Singh succumbed to his injuries later that morning. Hospital officials reported that the surviving victims, currently in critical condition, are receiving treatment in the trauma ward.

Police confirmed that Khan operates a factory producing iron beds in the Vishwakarma Industrial Area. A medical test verified his significant intoxication during the incident. Following a complaint from Mamta Kanwar’s father, an FIR has been filed against Khan.

The tragedy sparked tension in the area, prompting authorities to deploy officers from four police stations along Nahargarh Road and surrounding zones to ensure public order.
