Delhi Tests Air Raid Siren Amid Tensions With Pakistan, Testing Lasted 15-20 Minutes

New Delhi: The directorate of civil defence on Friday conducted testing of an air raid siren mounted on the top of the multistorey PWD building at ITO. Testing was initiated at 3:00 pm and was conducted for 15–20 minutes. It said that the public must stay calm and avoid panicking during the testing exercise. Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma said sirens will be installed on all the high-rise buildings in Delhi.

He said, “The work of installing sirens in Delhi has started. Sirens will be installed on all the high-rise buildings in Delhi. Its range is 8 kilometres. Starting tonight, 40-50 more sirens will be installed in high-rise buildings in Delhi. We will run it in case of any emergency. We can run it from a single command centre…”

A top police officer said that all crucial installations such as government offices, sewage treatment facilities, water treatment facilities, courts, and foreign missions are being secured by mobilising more forces, including paramilitary personnel. Police also tightened vigils at places with high traffic, such as markets, railway stations, malls, parks and Metro stations.

In the midst of the escalating tensions, the leaves of all Delhi Police staff were cancelled on Thursday night. “Night vigil has been intensified. We will deploy extra force in every sensitive area,” an officer said.
