Delhi Schools Thrown into Chaos by Fresh Wave of Bomb Hoaxes Amid Rising Security Fears

New Delhi: A wave of bomb threats swept through several prominent schools in the Indian capital on Saturday, prompting swift evacuations and heightening anxiety among students, parents, and educators as exams were disrupted.

Authorities identified Delhi Public School in Dwarka, Krishna Model Public School, and Sarvodaya Vidyalaya among the targeted institutions, with additional alerts hitting schools in the Najafgarh area at a time when assessments were in progress. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) confirmed the incidents, which unfolded early in the morning.

In response, Delhi Police mobilized alongside fire department units, bomb detection experts, and canine teams for immediate action. All occupants were safely removed from the premises, and initial sweeps have uncovered no explosives or suspicious materials, officials reported. Thorough inspections continue to ensure no risks remain.

This latest episode has amplified worries in a city already grappling with a surge in such false alarms, which routinely interrupt academic routines and sow widespread unease. Investigators are probing the sources of these threats, examining potential links that suggest an organized effort.

The events echo a troubling pattern seen in recent weeks. Just last Friday, September 13, an email alert to the Taj Palace Hotel in Chanakyapuri warned of 16 planted improvised explosive devices (IEDs); after a meticulous sweep by security personnel, it was dismissed as a fabrication.

Days prior, on September 9, the Delhi Chief Minister’s Secretariat and Maulana Azad Medical College faced similar warnings of blasts scheduled for 2:45 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively—both later confirmed as hoaxes following extensive checks.

August brought further disruptions: On the 28th, more than 20 colleges went into lockdown after receiving threats, while six schools were alerted on the 21st. In each case, evacuations and sniffer dog operations yielded no threats, underscoring the bogus nature of the claims.

Such recurring disruptions have left parents and school staff increasingly vigilant about student safety, demanding stronger safeguards against these vexing incidents.
