Delhi Court Calls Lalu Yadav, Family a “Criminal Syndicate” in Railway Land-for-Jobs Case

News Delhi: A Delhi court stated on Friday that RJD supremo Lalu Yadav and his family operated as a criminal syndicate, while framing charges of corruption and criminal conspiracy against them in the Railway land-for-jobs scam.

Special Judge Vishal Gogne, in his order on charge framing, observed that the court identified, “based on reasonable doubt,” an extensive conspiracy involving Lalu Yadav and his relatives.

The court ruled that a petition seeking discharge of Lalu Yadav and his family members was not sustainable. Referring to the chargesheet submitted by the investigating agency CBI, the court noted that associates of Lalu Yadav were identified as participants in the conspiracy.

Additionally, strong evidence suggested that Lalu Yadav and his family were functioning as a criminal enterprise, separate from their official capacities, the court observed.

The allegations in the case stem from the CBI’s claims that during Lalu Yadav’s term as Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009, Group D positions were allocated to applicants in exchange for land properties being transferred to his family at nominal rates.

The investigating agency states that multiple job seekers or their family members either sold or transferred land in Patna and elsewhere to the Yadav family and their associated companies. The CBI has contended that standard recruitment procedures were bypassed and that employment was provided in return for these property transfers.

The Yadav family has rejected the accusations, claiming the case is driven by political motives.
