A Delhi court on Thursday, December 11, 2025, granted former JNU student Umar Khalid interim bail from December 16 to 29 so he can attend his sister’s wedding. Khalid is an accused in the case linked to the alleged larger conspiracy behind the 2020 Delhi riots.
Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai granted him interim relief on the condition that he furnish a personal bond of ₹20,000 along with two sureties of the same amount. During the bail period, the court directed that he must not use social media and should meet only family members, relatives and friends.
The order further states that Khalid must remain at his home or at the venues where the wedding ceremonies, as specified by him, will be held. Other conditions include that he must not get in touch with any witness and must share his mobile phone number with the investigating officer.
The court has directed Khalid to surrender before the prison authorities on the evening of December 29. He had earlier been granted interim bail for seven days last year to attend another wedding, and had received similar relief in 2022 as well.
