NIA Nabs Key Ally in Delhi Car Bomb Plot: Arrest Exposes Ties to Lethal Suicide Strike
New Delhi: In a swift escalation of its probe into a deadly car explosion that rattled the capital, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has detained a close associate of the man identified as the suicide bomber behind the attack. The arrest, carried out Sunday in Delhi, marks a critical breakthrough just six days after the November 10 blast near the historic Red Fort, which killed 13 people and injured dozens more.
The suspect, Amir Rashid Ali from Samboora village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pampore area, stands accused of plotting alongside the bomber, Dr. Umar Un Nabi, to execute the violent strike. For the first time in its official updates, the NIA has labeled Dr. Un Nabi—a physician at Haryana’s Al Falah Medical College in Faridabad—as a “suicide bomber,” confirming his role at the vehicle’s controls during the detonation.
According to the NIA’s statement, Ali traveled to Delhi specifically to aid in acquiring the white Hyundai i20 used as a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (IED) in the assault. Records show the car was registered under Ali’s name, underscoring his direct logistical involvement in transforming it into a weapon of terror.

The blast’s grim aftermath provided forensic clues that solidified the timeline. Delhi Police, through DNA analysis matching samples from Dr. Un Nabi’s mother, verified his identity last Thursday. A severed leg—pinned between the steering wheel and accelerator—further indicated he was driving when the device ignited, authorities noted.
In tandem with Delhi Police, Jammu & Kashmir Police, Haryana Police, Uttar Pradesh Police, and other federal units, the NIA is expanding its multi-state inquiry. Investigators are chasing several leads to dismantle what they describe as a broader network orchestrating the incident. To date, the agency has interviewed 73 witnesses, including blast survivors, and impounded a second vehicle owned by Dr. Un Nabi for forensic scrutiny.
The plot bears hallmarks of a refined “white-collar” terror operation, led by a cadre of medical professionals recently dismantled by Jammu and Kashmir Police. The Union Cabinet, in its condemnation, branded the bombing a “heinous terror incident”—a “dastardly and cowardly act” by anti-national elements. Officials reaffirmed New Delhi’s ironclad stance of zero tolerance for terrorism in any guise.
As the investigation deepens, questions linger over the full scope of this shadowy alliance, with the NIA vowing to expose every link in the chain.
