Severed Arm Found On Shop’s Roof, 1,000 Feet Away From Delhi Blast Site

In a chilling indication of the blast’s sheer force near Delhi’s iconic Red Fort, investigators recovered a severed human arm from the rooftop of a shop approximately 300 meters away from the explosion site.

The detonation, which struck at 6:52 pm on Monday evening, claimed the lives of nine individuals and left 20 others wounded. Footage lasting 12 seconds captured the grim find atop a store in Lajpat Rai Market, directly across from the Red Fort Corridor. The limb, detached up to the forearm, underscored the violence of the incident.

Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials confirmed that high-grade explosives were deployed in the attack. Among the materials analyzed, one sample surpassed the potency of ammonium nitrate, a common explosive compound.

FSL teams gathered over 40 evidence items from the scene, including two cartridges, live rounds, and explosive remnants. Initial examinations identified ammonium nitrate in one sample, while the second awaited full lab testing to determine its precise makeup, described by an official as potentially more destructive than the first.

“The second explosive sample is believed to be more powerful than ammonium nitrate. Its exact composition will be confirmed after a detailed forensic examination,” the official stated.

Medical experts from Maulana Azad Medical College’s forensic department noted distinctive cross-injury patterns on several victims’ bodies, suggesting they were violently hurled against walls or the ground by the shockwave.

Additional post-mortem findings revealed severe internal trauma, with damage to lungs, ears, and abdominal regions in some cases.
