New Delhi: A day after a 20-year-old Delhi University student alleged an acid attack near Laxmi Bai College, investigators said the primary suspect’s phone location data placed him away from the crime scene at the relevant time. The student, a second-year B.Com learner under DU’s Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board, said she was accosted en route to an extra class. In her statement, she named Jitender and two others, Ishan and Arman. Police have detained Jitender for questioning; he maintains he was not present in the area when the incident occurred.

Preliminary checks suggest Jitender’s call detail records indicated he was in Karol Bagh at the time. Police added there is no CCTV camera covering the exact spot, and nearby footage does not capture Jitender at or around the location. Officers also said there were no visible traces of acid on the wall at the alleged attack point.
