Defence Ministry Launches ‘Operation Sindoor’ Themed Essay Contest: ₹10,000 Prize, Red Fort Independence Day Invite For Winners

New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Defence has launched a nationwide essay competition centered on Operation Sindoor, inviting youth to share their perspectives on India’s evolving counter-terrorism policy. The contest runs from June 1 to June 30, 2025, and is open for submissions in English or Hindi via MyGov.in.

Participants will compete for a cash prize of ₹10,000 each for the top three entries. In addition to the prize money, the winners will receive a rare opportunity to be present at the 78th Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort in New Delhi.

Announcing the competition on X (formerly Twitter), the Ministry stated: “Ministry of Defence invites young minds to make their voices heard! Participate in the MoD & @mygovindia bilingual essay contest on #OperationSindoor – Redefining India’s Policy Against #Terrorism.”

Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian Armed Forces on the night of May 6–7, 2025, as a direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians. The mission targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. It marked a significant escalation in India’s military posture, triggering retaliatory actions from Pakistan, including cross-border shelling and drone attacks, which were largely intercepted by Indian defences. In turn, India struck strategic sites, including Islamabad’s Nur Khan airbase. A ceasefire was reached on May 10.

The Defence Ministry described the operation as a turning point, saying India has “drawn a new red line” and “set a new normal” in responding to terror threats. The Ministry encourages students, writers, and citizens to contribute thoughtful essays that reflect on India’s counter-terrorism stance and the broader national security discourse.
