Comments On Judiciary: BJP Chief JP Nadda Calls Remarks Personal, Not Party Endorsed

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday distanced itself from controversial remarks made by its MPs Nishikant Dubey and Dinesh Sharma against the Supreme Court. Party president J P Nadda in a post on X said that the statements were personal opinions and not endorsed by the party.

“The BJP has nothing to do with the comments of MPs Nishikant Dubey and Dinesh Sharma on the judiciary and the Chief Justice of India. He added that he has instructed both leaders, and other party members, to refrain from making such comments in the future. Nadda reaffirmed the BJP’s respect for the judiciary and called it an integral part of India’s democratic structure. “They are a strong pillar of the protection of the Constitution,” he said. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Saturday stirred a controversy by suggesting that the existence of Parliament becomes irrelevant if the Supreme Court wants to make laws.

In a post on X and later in comments to news agencies, Dubey said, “If the Supreme Court has to make laws, then Parliament should be shut down.” His remarks come amid the ongoing Supreme Court hearing on the recently enacted Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. BJP MP Dinesh Sharma and former deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, also criticised the Supreme Court, saying no one can direct Parliament or the President.

Dubey’s remarks come amid recent criticism of the judiciary by political leaders, including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, over what they called judicial overreach. Jagdeep Dhankar also questioned the lengthy constitutional process required to register an FIR against a sitting judge through the Chief Justice of India and the President.

Congress leader Salman Khurshid said, “It is a matter of great sadness if an MP questions the Supreme Court or any court. In our legal system, the final word is not of the government, it is of the Supreme Court. If someone does not understand this, then it is a matter of great sadness.”
