As the election season heats up in Bihar, political rallies are turning into spectacles of crowd management and freebies. In one such recent incident, a campaign event for AIMIM candidate Tausif Alam in Kishanganj’s Bahadurganj constituency took an unexpected turn when attendees stormed the venue over free biryani distribution
A video from the event, which quickly went viral, shows large crowds scrambling and pushing to grab biryani packets. Reports say the situation soon spiraled into chaos. The incident triggered sharp online reactions some expressed disappointment, while others offered social commentary on the state’s economic struggles.
One user wrote, “Politicians should focus on improving Bihar, not just feeding people biryani during elections.” Another commented, “These are the voters shaping India’s future.” Some found humor in the moment “This happens all the time, last week it was mangoes, today it’s biryani!” while others empathized, noting that poverty and unemployment drive such desperation.
Political Context
The frenzy came against the backdrop of high political churn in Bihar. In the 2020 Assembly elections, the BJP-JDU alliance secured 125 seats, while the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan finished with 110. Despite JDU’s smaller share, Nitish Kumar became Chief Minister for the seventh time.

Since then, Kumar’s political trajectory has been marked by dramatic realignments switching from the BJP alliance to the Mahagathbandhan in 2022 to back the INDIA opposition bloc, and then returning to the BJP-led alliance in 2024 to take oath for his ninth term.
The incident at Tausif Alam’s rally serves as yet another reminder of Bihar’s complex electoral landscape where food, politics, and public sentiment frequently collide in full public view.
