Chandigarh : Haryana IPS Officer Shoots Himself At His Residence

Chandigarh : Haryana Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Y Puran Kumar allegedly died by suicide on Tuesday at his residence in Sector 11 in Chandigarh. Before carrying out the act, he instructed all his security personnel to leave the premises and then proceeded to the basement, where he sat on a chair and fired the fatal shot.

Police have also begun questioning everyone who was present in the building at the time of the suicide to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the incident. The body of the IPS officer has been taken to the Sector 16 Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur confirmed that police received information about a shooting around 1.30 pm at the Sector 11 Police Station.

The body of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar was found at his residence. The CFSL (Central Forensic Science Laboratory) team has reached the spot, and an investigation is underway. More details will be known after the post-mortem, said Kanwardeep Kaur. At the time of the incident, Kumar’s wife, senior IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, was in Japan as part of an official delegation led by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
