Centre Prepares Action Plan to Stop River Water Flow to Pakistan: Jal Shakti Minister CR Paatil After Meeting Amit Shah

New Delhi: Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Paatil announced on Friday that the central government has developed a strategic plan to halt the flow of Indian river water to Pakistan. This announcement came after a crucial meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Paatil told reporters that the Centre is implementing short-term, medium-term, and long-term measures, with desilting of rivers as one of the immediate steps. “In the meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, three options were discussed. We are taking necessary actions to ensure not a single drop of water goes to Pakistan,” he stated.
The move follows rising tensions in the aftermath of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah criticized the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it the “most unfair document” for the people of the Union Territory. Signed in 1960, the treaty governs the sharing of river waters between India and Pakistan.
Addressing the press, Abdullah said, “We in J-K have never supported the Indus Water Treaty. It has consistently disadvantaged the people here.”
He also spoke about Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s assurance regarding the safety of J-K residents living in other parts of India. “It is unfortunate this attack occurred. The Union Home Minister assured me that the government will take all necessary measures to protect people from J-K residing in other states. An advisory will be issued by the Home Ministry, and Shah has also spoken to various Chief Ministers,” he added.
Earlier, during a Cabinet Committee on Security meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by Home Minister Shah, India decided to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 until Pakistan takes verifiable steps to end its support for cross-border terrorism and closes the integrated Attari Check Post.
