Car Owner Registered Case Against Hyundai, Deepika Padukone, SRK Over Defective Car

Jaipur : A car owner in Rajasthan has lodged a fraud case against Hyundai Motors, its dealer, senior officials and brand ambassadors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. The complaint was filed by 50-year-old Kirti Singh, a resident of Aniruddh Nagar, Bharatpur, who moved court after police initially declined to register his grievance.
Acting on court directions, Mathura Gate police station registered the case on August 25 under sections 420, 406 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code, along with sections 312, 318, 316, 61 and 175(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. In his petition before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Bharatpur, Singh named Hyundai Motor India’s top executives – Managing Director Anso Kim (registered office Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu), COO Tarun Garg (corporate office Gurugram, Haryana), Malwa Auto Sales Pvt. Ltd. MD Nitin Sharma and Director Priyanka Sharma (Sonipat, Haryana).
He also listed actors Deepika Padukone (residing at Beaumonde Towers, Prabhadevi, Mumbai) and Shah Rukh Khan (residing at Mannat, Bandra West, Mumbai) as accused for endorsing and promoting the brand. According to Singh, he purchased a Hyundai Alcazar 1.5 AT Signature Black Sonipat, on June 14, 2022, for Rs 23,97,353. Before the purchase, a company representative visited his residence, carried out negotiations and collected Rs 51,000 as advance payment.
He alleged that the dealership assured him the car was trouble-free, promising to take responsibility in case of any defect. However, soon after purchase, the car started showing serious technical faults. This defect has repeatedly put my and my family’s lives at risk,” Singh stated in his petition. He further alleged that when he reported the issue, company representatives admitted it was an unfixable manufacturing defect and advised him to park the vehicle and run it at 2000 RPM for an hour whenever the malfunction occurred.
Singh accused Hyundai officials of conspiring to conceal known faults in the Alcazar model and defrauding customers. He claimed the refusal to replace the car or refund the purchase amount with interest amounted to cheating and breach of trust. He also held Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone responsible for promoting a defective product, arguing that their endorsements misled consumers.
