Tragic Bus Fire in Lucknow Claims Five Lives, Including Two Children

Lucknow: A devastating fire engulfed a double-decker bus traveling from Bihar to Delhi on Kisan Path in Lucknow’s Mohanlalganj area early Thursday morning, killing five passengers, including two children, according to police reports. The private bus, carrying approximately 80 passengers, was consumed by flames around 5 a.m., trapping many inside as the blaze rapidly spread.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Nipun Agarwal, stated that the fire is suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit in the bus’s gearbox, though investigations are ongoing to confirm the cause. Most passengers were asleep when smoke began filling the vehicle, complicating escape efforts. The driver and conductor reportedly fled the scene, leaving passengers to fend for themselves.

Visuals shared on social media captured the intensity of the fire, showing thick black smoke and flames billowing from the bus, which was reduced to a charred shell. Firefighters arrived promptly and extinguished the blaze within 30 minutes, but not before the tragic loss of life. Among the deceased were two women and one man, in addition to the two children.

Authorities are working to identify the victims and notify their families. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of long-distance private buses, with police continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire and the actions of the bus crew.
