New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fiercely criticized Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on May 19, 2025, accusing him of bolstering Pakistan’s propaganda and jeopardizing national security through his remarks on Operation Sindoor. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya, in an X post on May 2, branded Gandhi the “modern age Mir Jafar,” alleging his comments fueled a false narrative propagated by Pakistani media.

Malviya highlighted Gandhi’s questioning of Indian aircraft losses in Operation Sindoor, despite the Defence Ministry’s prior media briefing. Sharing a Pakistani news channel clip citing Gandhi’s statements, he wrote, “Rahul Gandhi’s words repeatedly serve as cover for those sponsoring cross-border terrorism.” He accused Gandhi of ignoring India’s military successes while focusing on losses, aligning with Pakistan’s narrative, and questioned if Gandhi’s actions were driven by political ambition over national duty. Malviya also noted Gandhi’s failure to inquire about Pakistani jets downed in the operation, sarcastically asking if Gandhi was aiming for Pakistan’s Nishan-e-Pakistan award.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Dr. Krishank echoed the criticism, stating Gandhi’s remarks aided Pakistan’s misinformation campaign. He questioned why Gandhi, as Leader of the Opposition, aired concerns publicly on X instead of raising them in an all-party meeting, urging him to ask questions in ways that strengthen India’s position.
Gandhi, however, stood firm, alleging the government informed Pakistan at the outset of Operation Sindoor—a claim previously debunked by the Press Information Bureau (PIB).
