The BJP on Tuesday announced its first list of 71 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, even as seat-sharing negotiations within the ruling NDA continue. Notably, Bihar Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav, who has held the Patna Sahib seat since 2010, has been replaced by Ratnesh Kushwaha.
Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha feature in the list, alongside senior leaders such as Ram Kripal Yadav (Danapur), Prem Kumar (Gaya), former Deputy CM Tarkishore Prasad (Katihar), Alok Ranjan Jha (Saharsa), and Mangal Pandey (Siwan). The party has retained Hisua with Anil Kumar as its candidate.
The announcement came shortly after Choudhary posted on social media that the NDA’s seat-sharing deadlock had been resolved “through amicable discussions” and that final talks over specific constituencies were progressing positively. This development follows the cancellation of a planned press conference on Monday due to last-minute differences between the BJP and JDU.
Under the NDA’s seat-sharing formula, both BJP and JDU will contest 101 seats each in the 243-member assembly. Voting will take place in two phases November 6 and November 11 with results to be declared on November 14. The deadline for filing nominations for the first phase, covering 121 seats, is October 17, while candidates for the second phase’s 122 seats must file by October 20.
