BJP And JDU Likely To Contest Equal Number Of Seats In Bihar

Patna : As Bihar gears up for the 2025 Assembly elections, sources say the BJP and JDU are preparing to contest an equal number of seats, with a total of 205 seats being divided between the two NDA partners. Reports suggest the BJP has offered 25 seats to LJP chief Chirag Paswan, seven seats to HAM leader Jitan Ram Manjhi, and six seats to Upendra Kushwaha’s RLM.

Negotiations with Chirag Paswan are said to be ongoing, with the LJP leader seeking preferred constituencies for his party leaders. If Paswan’s share of seats increases, it may result in a reduction in allocations for Manjhi and Kushwaha. The Election Commission of India on Monday announced the schedule for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, which will be held in two phases: November 6 and November 11, with results to be declared on November 14.

Over 7.4 crore voters, including around 14 lakh first-time voters, are eligible to participate. Phase 1 covers 121 constituencies in central Bihar, including rural and flood-prone areas, while Phase 2 covers 122 constituencies, mainly in border regions. The ruling NDA, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JDU and supported by the BJP, seeks to retain power, while the opposition Mahagathbandhan — comprising RJD, Congress, and Left parties — aims to challenge the alliance.

Key factors influencing the polls include the 33% Extremely Backward Classes (EBC) vote, which has traditionally leaned toward the NDA but is now being courted by the opposition, rising female voter turnout, and improved infrastructure in north Bihar, which has influenced the phase-wise election schedule.
