The accused Sachin Rajput and Ritika Sen, 29, had been living together for over three years. On the night of June 27, an argument between the two escalated, and Sachin allegedly killed Ritika by strangling her. He then wrapped her body in a bedsheet, tied it with a rope, and left it inside the house.

After the murder, Sachin met a friend and the two had drinks together. Under the influence of alcohol, the accused confessed to the crime, but the friend dismissed it as drunken talk. It was only the next day, when Sachin repeated the confession sober, that the friend grasped the seriousness of the situation and alerted the police.
