Bengaluru: In a shocking act of domestic violence, a man in Bengaluru fatally stabbed his young wife multiple times at a crowded bus stand, leaving their 12-year-old daughter to witness the horrifying scene, authorities reported Tuesday.
The victim, identified as 28-year-old Rekha, a mother of two, had been married to the suspect, Lokesh, for just three months. Police investigations reveal this was a second marriage for both, marked from the outset by escalating tensions. After relocating to the city, Rekha secured a position at a call center and even assisted Lokesh in landing a driving job there. Yet, their brief union unraveled amid his unfounded suspicions of infidelity; he repeatedly accused her of inappropriate involvement with a male colleague, sources close to the probe.
The tragic incident unfolded early Monday morning at a bus stop in the Kamakshipalya area, where Rekha stood waiting with her daughter to head to work. Lokesh, fueled by paranoia, suddenly appeared armed with a knife. In a frenzied assault, he inflicted around a dozen stab wounds to her body before fleeing the scene, leaving bystanders stunned.
Alert locals and patrolling officers quickly intervened, rushing the gravely injured woman to a nearby private hospital. Despite urgent medical efforts, Rekha succumbed to her wounds shortly after arrival, plunging the family into unimaginable grief.
Kamakshipalya Police Station has formally registered a murder case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. A manhunt is underway to apprehend Lokesh, who remains at large. Investigators are piecing together witness statements and reviewing CCTV footage from the bus stand to reconstruct the timeline and motives.
This grisly episode underscores the perils of unchecked suspicion in relationships, especially in urban settings where domestic strife often simmers beneath the surface. As the probe deepens, questions linger about warning signs that may have been overlooked in the couple’s short-lived marriage.
Police urge anyone with information on Lokesh’s whereabouts to come forward anonymously, emphasizing community vigilance in combating gender-based violence. Rekha’s elder child, also affected by the loss, is now under family care as authorities extend support to the surviving daughter, who is receiving counseling for the trauma.
