Bengaluru : Doctor Arrested 6 Months After Wife’s ‘Unnatural’ Death, Anaesthetic Drug Propofol Used

Bengaluru : Bengaluru police have arrested Dr Mahendra Reddy, a general surgeon, for the murder of his wife, Dr Kruthika M Reddy, a dermatologist, by administering the anaesthetic drug Propofol, a substance restricted to operation theatre use. Mahendra had reportedly visited her and administered intravenous injections over two days, claiming they were part of her treatment. She was declared brought dead at a nearby private hospital.

Following this confirmation, Marathahalli Police reclassified the case as murder under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and arrested Mahendra from Manipal, Udupi, where he had relocated after the incident. A Look-Out Circular (LOC) had already been issued against him. Police said Mahendra allegedly used his professional access to OT and ICU drugs to execute the murder and later attempted to portray it as a natural death.

Further inquiries revealed that Mahendra’s family had a criminal background. His twin brother, Dr Nagendra Reddy GS, faced multiple cheating and criminal cases at HAL Police Station in 2018, while Mahendra and another brother, Raghava Reddy GS, were named co-accused in a 2023 case for allegedly threatening the same complainant’s family. These details, Kruthika’s family claimed, were concealed at the time of marriage.

Kruthika, 28, was a highly qualified dermatologist who had completed her MBBS from Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences, MD (Dermatology) from Navodaya Medical College, Raichur, and DNB (Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy) from NBEMS. She was set to inaugurate her dream clinic, Skin & Scalpel, on May 4, 2025.

Her father, Muni Reddy, filed a formal complaint on October 14, 2025, leading to Mahendra’s arrest. Speaking to police, he said, Kruthika trusted her husband completely, she believed in his love and in his profession. But the same medical knowledge that should have saved lives was used to end hers. Justice for Kruthika is justice for every woman who believes in love and integrity.
