Assam Woman Found Dead In Uttarakhand After Going Missing In Delhi: Mystery Deepens Around Rasmita Hojai’s Death

New Delhi: As the country grapples with the chilling revelations in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, another tragedy has surfaced, this time involving a young woman from Assam who had recently gone missing in Delhi.

Twenty-year-old Rasmita Hojai, a resident of Sontila Hojai village in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Uttarakhand on Monday. Her body was recovered from the banks of the Ganga river in Pauri Garhwal district, five days after she was last heard from.

Rasmita had travelled to Delhi earlier this month to appear for the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination. She last contacted her family on June 5, the day of the exam. After that, all communication ceased, raising concerns and triggering a desperate search.

According to reports, Rasmita left for Rishikesh the following day with two male acquaintances, including Hemant Sharma, a former classmate from Haryana. The group had planned a camping trip in the Shivpuri area, known for its river-side adventure activities.

The camping trip took a tragic turn the same evening. The two men reportedly informed Shivpuri police that Rasmita had gone missing. A local resident later told police he saw a woman drowning near the riverbank, sparking fears that Rasmita may have been swept away.

Following the report, a search operation was launched. Divers from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed to the area. Her body was recovered on Tuesday and has since been sent for post-mortem examination.

The Uttarakhand Police have confirmed the recovery of the body but are yet to establish the exact cause of death. Speaking to the media, Pradeep Chauhan, SHO of Munkireti Police Station, said that while drowning appears likely, police are not ruling out suicide or foul play at this stage.

Rasmita’s family, devastated by the loss, has demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. The news was confirmed by Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Dima Hasao district, who shared the update in an emotional Facebook post on Tuesday. “It is with a heavy heart I share that Miss Rasmita Hojai… has been found dead today in Pauri Garhwal District of Uttarakhand. This is an unthinkable loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with her grieving family,” Gorlosa wrote.

He also thanked Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Uttarakhand Police for their support in the search efforts. Gorlosa called for immediate legal action against the two individuals who were last seen with her.”Justice must be served. Crimes against our daughters must not go unpunished,” he said, urging authorities to ensure accountability and safety for women.
