BJP Blames Mamata Banerjee for Alleged Anti-Hindu Violence in West Bengal Amid Waqf Protests

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of fostering targeted violence against Hindus in the state, claiming it occurred under the pretext of protests against recent amendments to the Waqf legislation. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari described the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament as widely welcomed across India, sparking a “wave of happiness” with only minor peaceful demonstrations elsewhere. In contrast, he alleged that West Bengal stood out due to violent incidents.
Bhandari criticized Banerjee, asserting that she had turned West Bengal described as the land of revered figures like Swami Vivekananda, Syama Prasad Mukherjee, and Rabindranath Tagore into a hub of appeasement politics. He contrasted the situation with neighboring Assam, where he claimed peace prevailed, suggesting that the violence in West Bengal stemmed from Banerjee’s support. The BJP spokesperson further alleged that no police action was taken against those involved in the violence in Murshidabad, despite prior intelligence reports available to the state government, holding Banerjee directly accountable for the unrest.
