New Delhi : Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has requested Wipro founder Azim Premji to permit limited vehicular movement through the company’s campus in Bengaluru as part of efforts to ease traffic congestion on the Outer Ring Road. The Chief Minister has sought cooperation from Wipro, noting that controlled access through the campus could provide significant relief to traffic in the area.
The proposal comes in the backdrop of repeated concerns raised by commuters and civic groups over the severe traffic snarls witnessed on the Outer Ring Road, which is a key corridor for the city’s information technology hubs. Recently, a logistics technology firm BlackBuck’s co-founder had announced that it would vacate its Bellandur office over poor road conditions.
Rajesh Yabaji, CEO of BlackBuck, wrote on social media that the Outer Ring Road was best known for “roads full of potholes and dust, coupled with the lowest intent to get them rectified.” He added that he expected no improvement in the situation for at least five years. He claimed that industries were losing faith and shifting to neighbouring states and alleged that the government had “trampled on the pride of Kannadigas” by neglecting development.
Defending their record, Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar had said contractors had been given a final deadline to fill potholes by November. He also announced Rs 1,100 crore for road repair and construction across the city. “Since our goal is a clean Bengaluru and smooth traffic movement, GBA will ensure that potholes are cleared at the earliest,” he said.
