
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached the Ahmedabad crash site today to address the aftermath of a tragic Air India plane crash on June 12, 2025. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, Flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff in the Meghaninagar area near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, killing 241 of the 242 passengers and crew. The sole survivor, Viswash Kumar Ramesh, a British national, is under treatment. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among the victims, as confirmed by Bharatiya Janata Party officials. Relief flights from Delhi and Mumbai are transporting victims’ kin, with helplines provided. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is investigating, with one black box recovered, and possible causes like overloading or a bird strike are under review. Ahmedabad airport, managed by the Adani Group, resumed limited operations, while Gautam Adani pledged support. Emergency teams, including the National Disaster Response Force, continue to handle the crash site amid ongoing investigations.
