New Aadhaar App Brings Face ID and QR Codes to Digital Verification

The Modi government has introduced a groundbreaking Aadhaar mobile app, launched on April 8, 2025, by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, featuring facial recognition and QR code verification. Developed with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the app eliminates the need for physical Aadhaar cards, offering a secure, digital alternative. The app’s AI-powered face ID and QR code system aim to simplify authentication, making it as easy as scanning a UPI payment code.
Vaishnaw highlighted the app’s privacy-focused design, allowing users to share Aadhaar details digitally with full control over their data. Announced via X, the app currently in beta enables real-time verification through a single tap or QR scan, reducing risks tied to sharing physical copies at places like hotels and airports. The minister likened the process to a UPI transaction, emphasizing its role as a cornerstone of India’s digital public services.
Built with UIDAI, the app enhances security through tamper-proof QR codes and facial authentication, promising greater accessibility and privacy. Vaishnaw invited feedback on further AI integration into India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, signaling future advancements. This launch marks a key step in the government’s push for digital governance, streamlining Aadhaar services for millions.
