A Week After Pahalgam Attack, Jammu And Kashmir Shuts 48 Tourist Spots Amid Security Precautions

Srinagar: A week after the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 dead and several injured, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has moved swiftly to shut down 48 out of 87 tourist destinations across the valley as a security precaution.

Officials said the sites selected for closure are either located in areas under active anti-terror operations or in zones now classified as vulnerable. Destinations such as Yousmarg, Tosa Maidan, Doodpathri, Aharbal, Kousarnag, Bangus Valley, Watlab, Rampora, Rajpora, and Chandigam are among those now off-limits to tourists. Tourist spots that remain open have been placed under heightened security, with additional forces deployed to ensure safety.

Meanwhile, in a parallel crackdown, Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with other security agencies, carried out widespread raids across Srinagar, Doda, and Kishtwar districts. Several properties linked to suspected militants were demolished during the operations. Officials emphasized that all actions were conducted in accordance with proper legal procedures, under the supervision of executive magistrates and independent witnesses.

The closures are being described as temporary, with authorities planning to review the situation periodically. However, no definite timeline for reopening has been announced yet. The sudden restrictions have raised concerns among stakeholders in the tourism sector, a critical pillar of Kashmir’s economy. Many hotels, restaurants, and tour operators have already reported booking cancellations and a steep decline in visitor numbers.

Authorities have urged travelers to stay updated through official advisories, exercise caution, and avoid venturing into sensitive areas. The government has assured that efforts are underway to restore normalcy and provide support to businesses affected by the disruption.
