New Delhi: 8 person was killed and 20 injured after a car exploded near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening. Authorities have issued a high alert across the national capital following the incident, which occurred on the same day a major terror module was busted.
Details of the Blast
According to the Delhi Fire Department (DFS), the explosion took place in a car near Gate Number 1 of the metro station. The initial blast triggered a fire that engulfed three to four other vehicles nearby, causing significant damage.
In a statement, the DFS confirmed the incident: “A call was received regarding an explosion in a car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, after which three to four vehicles also caught fire and sustained damage.” The emergency call was received at 7:05 PM, and seven fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Security Heightened After Terror Module Bust
The explosion prompted a swift security escalation across Delhi. The high alert comes on a day when Jammu and Kashmir police, in a coordinated operation with other agencies, dismantled a terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. This network was reportedly active across Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
In connection with the terror bust, authorities arrested eight people in Faridabad, including three doctors. A significant cache of 360 kilograms of explosives and weapons was also seized from a house in Dhauj village that was rented by one of the doctors.
