41 Hyderabad Pilgrims Dead in Saudi Bus Crash, Only 1 Survivor Reported”: Owaisi

AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi revealed on Monday that approximately 42 individuals from Hyderabad, his Lok Sabha constituency, were caught in a fatal road accident in Saudi Arabia.

Reports indicate that over 42 people lost their lives when a bus transporting Indian pilgrims between Mecca and Medina burst into flames following a collision with a diesel tanker near Mufrihat.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Owaisi said he learned that 42 pilgrims traveling with two Hyderabad-based travel agencies were aboard the bus when the fire broke out. While unconfirmed, initial reports suggest just one person may have survived the tragedy.

Owaisi said he reached out to Abu George, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Riyadh, who confirmed efforts were underway to gather details about the incident. He also contacted the two travel agencies involved and provided passenger information to both the Riyadh Embassy and the Foreign Secretary.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed his shock at the news and directed state officials to work closely with embassy representatives to assist affected families.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said he was “deeply shocked” by the accident. Writing on X, he stated that the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah were providing full support to Indian nationals and families impacted by the tragedy. He offered condolences to grieving families and wished for the quick recovery of the injured.

The Consulate General of India in Jeddah described the bus accident as “tragic” and established a round-the-clock control room at 8002440003 to assist those affected.
