New Delhi: Four persons died and several others are feared trapped after a four-storey building collapsed in northeast Delhi’s Shakti Vihar area in the early hours of Saturday, officials said. Around 22 people were allegedly trapped under the debris when the building collapsed, police said after reaching the spot.
According to the police, at least 14 people have been rescued so far and were shifted to the GTB Hospital where four were declared dead upon arrival. Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), firefighters, and Delhi Police have rushed to the spot. The police further said that they are probing the cause behind the building’s collapse.

NDRF official highlighted the difficulty being faced by the rescue teams in moving heavy machinery in the congested alleys of Mustafabad to clear the debris, adding that around 12 people are still trapped. CCTV footage shared by a local resident at around 2:30 am on Saturday, the exact moment of the collapse has been captured. A huge gust of wind and dust can be seen blowing across the alley, just after the building collapsed.
Last week, two people were killed and three injured in separate incidents – a building collapse and a wall collapse – in the Delhi-NCR region. An under-construction wall on the sixth floor of a building in Delhi’s Madhu Vihar resulted in the death of a 67-year-old man.
